Every year seniors play their last game in sports like senior varsity captains: Teyla Woody and Julliana Loera. They recently played their last game of volleyball, and while working hard they also helped out the younger volleyball players.

“We've been there the longest we know more about the program,” Woody said. “We are good with all the teams.”

Loera enjoys being able to be a role model for her teammates.

“Everyone is looking up to you,” Loera said. “It’s about being there for someone when they need help.”

Playing with the same people for a while in sports can build really strong bonds between one another and Woody agrees with that.

“We have chemistry together,” Woody said. “We’ve been with the coach the longest too.”

Loera felt good about being chosen as one of the team captains and was supported a lot by her coaches.

“I was excited,” Loera said. “Whenever we wanted to quit the coaches encouraged us not to.”

Woody had mixed feelings about being chosen as team captain for the volleyball team.

“I was excited, but I was just nervous because of the pressure to be the best,” Woody said.

Volleyball varsity coach Megan Gutierrez likes how Woody and Loera work together as team captains on the volleyball court.

“The girls, their mindset this year has been very good,” Gutierrez said. “That's been helpful because playing at the varsity level here in our district is really a different world.”

Gutierrez said both Loera and Woody contributed big time to this volleyball season while also leaving an impact on the team.

“This season it's been super different,” Gutierrez said. “They are a big part of the offense.”

At the senior night game, the varsity volleyball team worked together to defeat Akins in a  4-1 victory to end their last home game for the season.
