After being informed of the elementary schools beginning a Parent-Teacher Association, parent liaison Leticia Segovia grew an interest in starting one of her own.

A PTA, short for Parents-Teacher Association, is an opportunity for parents to get involved with the school and support their children with improvement. It can benefit both sides, parents can check in with their children’s teacher and figure out what they can do to support while teachers can use it as feedback from the parents.

“Parent involvement is part of my job of what I do here for the school,” Segovia said. “Having parents active in their children's education is a lot, knowing what’s going on and just having that connection with the parents and the school.”

One of the main goals for the PTA right now is to let everyone know about it, getting the teachers, the parents, and the students on board in joining.

“It’s our first year for the PTA, right now it’s just mainly getting the word out,” Segovia said. “The PTA isn’t just about our parents. It’s also about students and teachers because it takes the three of those groups to help the school.”

Having a PTA is effective for the school because it can potentially help bring funds to the school, good partnerships, and more attention.

“Because a lot of our parents work, they know about different programs.” Segovia said. “They can bring in more partnerships, which will affect the students and help bring more funding.”

With this being the first active PTA at the high school, Segovia feels that it is a big accomplishment for her and those who are involved.

“It wasn't just on my part alone,” Segovia said. “huge kudos to these parents that are helping kick this off, I would have not been able to do all of this without them.”

The PTA is actively looking for more members. Students, teachers, and parents are all welcomed to join. They recently held their first event which was the JV tailgate, and they are planning on more fundraisers in the future.
